Elsie didn't answer and she wouldn't be any time soon. She wondered when this woman would finally get that hint. Elsie wasn't a mute exactly but she had her reasons for not speaking. She shrugged her shoulders as if to say that she didn't care what the other woman decided to have, anything would go good on her empty belly.

"Here we go.", Save said as they got to the eatery's doors. She turned around and pushed the doors open with her back, letting the girl through in the process. Once they were inside, she immediately approached the nearest empty table and placed her bags on an empty seat. She straightened up and waited for the girl to sit.
"This is perfect, I'm famished.", she said smiling to Beth.

Elsie quickly crawled into the bench opposite Save, her bag left securely on her back just in case. She ignored the older woman, her big blue eyes taking in her surroundings. Her sensitive tiny nose picking up the wonderful sent of a juicy burger. Her belly rumbled loudly.

Save held the menu up between the table or both of them to see. She scanned and saw mushroom soup. Her stomach gave a little jump at the thought of it inside her tummy. She turned to Beth.
"What do you want, Beth?", she said as she raised a hand to call a waitress.

Sitting on her knees, Elsie rested her elbows on the edge of the table and leaned over so that she could scan the single menu that had been left for the two of them to share. It was a difficult choice but in the end she pointed to the double cheese burger and fries with a large strawberry milkshake. If Save insisted on buying then she might as well pick out something good.

Save smiled at Beth and giggled.
"Nice choice.", she said jokingly. For a girl her size, she can surely pack a great deal of load. She found it adorable and cute. Here she was, a full grown woman, worrying about her body image and is drowning in an immense amount of insecurities. Here was a girl, packing up as if she'd be going on a hardcore hiking trip. She looked up to the approaching waitress and ordered the food.
"Do live near town?", she asked the girl.

Elsie thought so too. She couldn't remember the last time that she had gotten to eat something so mouth watering and it hadn't even gotten to her yet. Save should have ordered something like that too. The woman wasn't that big and she thought it so ridiculous that grown women resorted to starving themselves just because of some insecurity. She hoped that she would never get that way once she got older.
She nodded her head absently in answer. It was a good cover to have and it would explain why she was often seen wandering around town. Elsie didn't have a home, she slept in the driest places that she could find that night before moving on somewhere else the next day.

Save unconsciously nodded too. She smiled to know that the girl actually had a home. It was just unfortunate that, from the looks of it, she didn't come from a fortunate home.
"Do have siblings?", she asked, making a quasi-small talk. It seemed like the girl didn't like to write down answers. To be honest, Save thought she'd probably feel the same if she were in Beth's position. But it just felt like awkward silence. Save liked noise--music. "I don't.", she quirked without the need for Beth to look interested. Save was just that type of person. "It gets lonely.", she shrugged.

Elsie didn't answer right away, lowering her blue eyes to the hands wringing together in her lap. She had six other siblings, five sisters and one older brother. She loved them all very much even though she doubted that all of them felt the same about her. She finally shook her head no in answer. It would be too difficult explaining why none of the others would be seen wandering the island like her.

"Hm..." Save nodded at the girl. "Sometimes you wish did, don't you?", she said to Beth as a rhetorical question. She looked up as the waitress brought their orders.
She placed a napkin on her lap and smelled the aroma of the soup. It smelled like button mushrooms and just delicious. But still, a whiff of air made it's way to Save's nostrils and carried the aroma of the molten cheese on a grilled burger patty. She kept staring at the soup, willing herself to believe that this was better. She took a few deep breaths of the soup's aroma and looked up at Beth.
"Well, let's tuck in.", she said happily, scooping a good amount from her soup bowl with a smile. She enjoyed eating a lot, still she kept one eye on Beth. Save was worried that the girl might have ordered a bit too much.

Elsie quickly shook her head no. She didn't wish that at all, in fact part of her wished that she had never had any siblings at all. If she had none then they couldn't have rejected her, if she had none then they wouldn't have had to go through the same abuse that she did. They all would forever bear the markings of their parents love, both physically and emotionally.
She was glad for the distraction when the waitress brought their orders. She didn't like thinking about them anymore, it hurt too much and coming here was supposed to free her from that. She sat up on her knees once more, leaning over the table as she shoved several fries into her mouth. Eating like a homeless person, which in fact she was.

"Whoa, easy there, hun.", Save said with a smile. She found it slightly disconcerting that Beth ate like she was starved. It was highly probably that her family was far from getting by. She can't imagine having to live like that. Nonetheless, all she can do, for now, was to feed her this minute meal.
"I expect you're enjoying it...", she said again, finishing half of her soup. "Dessert?"

Normally Elsie wouldn't have done this, she wouldn't have put on such a show in front of a stranger who could either make her or break her. But it had gotten to the point that her belly ached so badly that it sometimes brought tears to her beautiful blues and Elsie never cried. Maybe she could afford taking advantage of this woman's niceness just this once since she was offering. With her pinky finger she pointed towards the double fudge brownies on the menu as she bit into the burger. Her big eyes spelling out please. There would be enough for them both to share.

Save nodded gleefully. At least she'd get a chance to smell chocolate again. She called the attention of the nearest waitress and ordered the brownies.
She looked back at Beth and smiled a wide one. "I like chocolate too. For some reason, it makes me feel better.", she said pensively. She remembered those hot cocoa that mom used to make her during particularly rainy days. It was glorious. Just the smell of it made her think that she could die in satisfaction. That's was actually why she gained a lot of weight in the past year. Losing her parents made go into a slight depression so she resorts to comfort food.

Elsie could see the many insecurities that Save tried to keep hidden inside and she didn't like what she saw in the least. It frustrated her when adults focused so much of their attention on their outward appearances, it wasn't healthy. She pushed her plate aside to reach into her bag once more for her notebook. Her tidy scrawl quickly working its way across the page. She pushed the note and one of the brownies that the waitress gave them over to Save. Stop worrying about what you see in the mirror. You are beautiful just the way you are now.

Save sat, frozen as she read the girl's note. "Good god...", was all she could manage to think. This was a girl that hasn't even reached her puberty yet she knew more about loving one's self that Save herself. She looked at the girl, pensive and vague as she realized the gravity of what Beth said. Save was more than a decade older that her but age is not tantamount to wisdom. In this case, age was the opposite of wisdom. She sighed as a soft smile took over her face.
"Thank you...", she said quietly with a bit of tentative tone. Maybe it would be true someday, maybe she'd find to accept herself for who she is...someday...Those things doesn't happen overnight.
She looked up at the waitress as their desert was delivered. She pushed the brownies towards Beth first. After all, she was the one who ordered those. Maybe she'd manage a small cut of it but she didn't really mind. It was refreshing to see somebody like Beth be so free and just, in a way, self-absorbed. In cases like these, it's always good to invest on one's self.

Elsie pushed the plate back towards Save, her expression hard as her mind was already made up. She was stubborn and would get this woman to eat at least one whether she liked it or not. She motioned with her tiny nose for her to get on with it, her arms crossing across her small chest so that she wouldn't be tempted to take another up until Save gave in. What more harm could it do? If you are going to die then you might as well die happy.

Save tilted her head and couldn't resist a little shake of her head. Beth was stubborn, undeniably cute and disturbingly wise for a little girl. At the moment, Save felt like they made an odd pair. She sighed in defeat, still an amused smile on her lips, & quirked her eyebrows.
"Fine. We'll share.", she said and picked up one of the square pieces. Her eyes momentarily widened as the fudge stuck to the plate and to the brownie like molten cheese would on a pizza. "Hokay...", she said as she bit off a small piece.
"Hmm...", was all that she could manage to say as she chewed on the brownie. She shook her head slightly, marveling at the greatness of cocoa and pushed the plate towards Beth, nodding to her as if to say that the fudge was awesome.

Elsie covered her mouth with her hands as she snorted at the way Save's eyes widened as she gazed down at the delicious molten fudge. Honestly, she was acting like she was forcing her to do drugs or something and it was getting to be a bit ridiculous. How much harm could one brownie really do? She declined the offer as the plate was pushed back towards her, her main concern right now was tackling the large burger that she had ordered. The dessert could wait a little while. She lifted the monstrosity with both hands, her beautiful blues nearly rolling into the back of her head as she bit into it once more.

"Food is the greatest thing that God created, don't you agree?", Save sighed as she chewed on the brownie and sighed as she looked at the grey skies. She didn't even care if it looked like it was going to rain but the fact that it was still shedding some light into this godforsaken island gave her some rare hope. Obscurum was probably the most ironic place she'd ever been.
