The sunlight made grand, glittering impressions upon the floor, as it passed through the large and intricately patterned windows of the entrance hall. Distorted shapes were splashed across the walls, sometimes almost grotesque in their warped detail. It was the red-orange of dawn sun that gave them a bloody tinge, and if you were to stand in these sunlight patches they would be as warm as freshly spilt blood too.
Laura paused only momentarily to glance at the splashed light and colour, wondering at its unnerving beauty from the top of the great stone staircase. From her position it looked almost like a deliberate work of art. A post-modern commentary on the state of humanity perhaps. Absorbed by her pondering, she let slip her mind the reason why she was in such a hurry so early in the morning. Laura had been on her way to the forest, to visit Master Zahi. Although she had not a set time for her appointment with him, she preferred the early mornings to help her focus. The crisp morning air always held her attention, and there seemed to be more energy on the island earlier in the day. Potential energy, she thought of it as. Energy that had been put aside for everything that may be achieved that day (but probably wouldn't be).
It was the flash of thought of potential energy that spurred her memory and encouraged her to run as fast as she could down the stairs, holding onto the smooth stone rail to prevent herself from toppling to the bottom.

Despite one of Obscurum Sceptrum's best attempts to dazzle Buckley with a sunrise feast that might have caused another soul to consider an intervention, Buckley didn't have enough spare mind to notice. Focused on counting the rate of his heartbeat as he jogged(Or his best attempt to) back to his bed, he hoped by doing so before bed he could remove the '1812 Overture' that had been lodged in his mind for two days and counting.
Buckley carefully looked down at his bare feet as he ascended the stairs at his fast pace. With all physical sensations focused towards the rays of the sun that were warming his back, then as he rounded the corner moving across to warm his face. As the sun begun to rub Buckley's back again, he realized that it was working! He was still focusing on his feet and hearbeat and the Overture was leaving his head, he could finally sleep!
The sun quickly overtook his shoulder and cheek and once again tried for a frontal assault to his eyes, but instead this time Buckley almost shivered as the mornings rays turned cold and and stopped illuminating his feet. Buckley thought it was strange that the sun would suddenly turn dark and cold. But as soon as the idea of a possible shadow entered his mind it was too late, his glance had reached upwards to about kneecap height before he was once again reminded of Tchaikovsky's cannon's as the crash reverb spilled over all the stairs.

The sound of bare feet slapping against stone reached Laura's ears several moments too late for her to react to it in such a way that would prevent the bruising to come. A soft cry was pressed from her lips as something very distinctly human-shaped and consistent with human density collided with her. The next few seconds were silent on her part, aside from the few expulsions of air forced from her body as she collided with both person and step. Luckily she didn't have far to fall, since she had been relatively close to the bottom of the grand staircase. And luckily also, the stairs were so old and their edges worn from use. The painful stair that she caught bashing against her ribs could have been much worse.
When she finally came to be splayed across the floor, entangled with what she assumed to be that distinctly human figure, she was resting in a sunlight pool that looked much like a bloody lake around her. Perhaps if she had been a touch more dramatic she would have encouraged thoughts that a blood-lake certainly felt appropriate. But is wasn't so bad as all that.
It was bad enough though, that the groan that she uttered next was quite considerably called for.

Buckley almost felt like an audience should applaud and whistle for more after the tumble, instead the sole passer by gave a small clap before moving on. The stranger mangled beneath him groaned. 'Indeed' responded Buckley before realizing that perhaps he should stand up. Quickly scrambling to his feet, Buckley looked up the stairs to see how many they had elegantly travelled down, It matched with his tally. His eyes made it down to the bruised student on the floor, bruised woman on the floor, bruised, lady on the floor, attractive, bruised, lady on the floor, On the floor. It clicked and Buckley moved suddenly ''I am most sincerely apologetic' Buckley stretched out his hands. 'They call me Buckley, well...by they I mean... not many, but you can call me Buckley, if you like that is."
