Adam was once again in the trees. He had been out exploring new parts of the forest all day with Feeorin. Since the incident with the Wyvern, a few things had happened. Feeorin was a forest, or earth vixie, but her mother and sister were both fire vixies. Her mother had found her abandoned years ago, and took her in as her own. Feeorin always knew she was adopted, but it didn't really matter to her. She was coming to the age however where her nature was conflicting with her mothers. Probably the most notable of which was that her mother liked to be in fire, and she did not. Her mother told feeorin that she should go with Adam. It made sense, even ignoring the fact she had bonded herself with him to save his life, if Adam had an element, it would most certainly be of the forest. So they had started traveling together, and Adam quickly found out just how mischievous she was.
Adam was following Feeorin now, it was a challenge he enjoyed, it kept him sharp and exercised. As he jumped from tree to tree she flew ahead, zigzagging and such. For a moment he lost sight of her. He kicked up speed and continued jumping from tree to tree. As he became worried he might have to double back to find her, she burst from a patch of leaves, yelling "SURPRISE" And flying right into his face. Adam lost his footing, and fell the good 10 metres to the ground, ending in a large splash as he hit a big mud puddle back first.
Adam groaned, the puddle had absorbed some of the impact, but it still gave him a good thump. He heard Feeorin laughing hysterically. She landed on his chest, doubling over while clutching her sides, she was laughing so hard she couldn't stand. She looked at him, and managed to gasp out "Nice landing" Adams only response was to gather a handful of mud and slap it down on top of her. That cut her off, and when she dug herself out of the mud to glare at him, he couldn't help but start that same hysterical laughter, which in turn started her again. It was a good few Minuit's before they managed to calm down. Adams sides ached from laughing so much. He picked up Feeorin and held her to his shoulder while he stood. When she was standing on his shoulder she came up a little taller than his ear. Adam looked around. They were in a clearing, and close to them was a MAMMOTH tree stump, at least, Adam thought it was a tree stump. The sun was hitting the top of it, so Adam climbed up to sit in its warmth, he would be able to brush the bulk of the mud off his cloak once it was dry. He pulled out a pouch containing some berries and handed one to Feeorin. "You know your going to break my neck one of these days" She let out a little giggle "Oh please tough guy, your not worried about a little fall are you" Adam still hadn't gotten over the effect of her sing-song voice yet. He looked up to where he had fallen from, about the height of a two story building. "Easy for you to say, you have wings"

Partially hidden behind the low-hanging boughs of a large willow tree, the homes of the forest mages sat silently. In passing they might be mistaken for a large, oddly shaped mounds of soil and plant matter, easily hidden in the greenery of the forest. It would seem to anyone who came to the clearing that these homes were abandoned, so quiet and still. Only one of these huts showed any sign of life (though all held it), a small, squat home set slightly apart from its brothers. A lazy coil of bluish smoke rose into the canopy, scenting the air with the smell of thyme and mint.
Zahi blinked slowly, awakening from a kind of stupor with a hum in the back of his mind and an odd taste on his tongue. Something in the air too, below the scent of burning herbs. It was bitter-sweet; the sensation, the taste, the smell. Almost metallic. As his mind sharpened, a word imprinted itself upon his conciousness. Magus.
He was awake now, completely. The buzz of an untrained mind in a place where it shouldn't be was enough to focus his attention. He sighed into the fragrant air of his hut, knowing that it was his duty to take this one in, to teach it...-him?. He devoted more of his attention to the Magus. It was harder in the hazy air than it would have been outside. Male. Young? Too reckless to be anything other than young.
Zahi let out a lengthy breath, pinching a few leaves of an odd, red tinted plant and throwing them onto the fire, making the flames burn purple momentarily. The fire died down to glowing embers, the smoke from the chimney stuttering as Zahi moved to his door, preparing to meet this new young mind.

It was nice in the sun. The air was cool and had a slight breeze, and the sunlight took the bite out of it. Adam was still on top of the oversized treestump, eating the last of the berries with Feeorin. The mud was dried and cake'd now. Adam took off his cloak and brushed the mud off. Feeorin sighed and slid down to his lap "Help me get this off" Unlike Adam, who's cloak had been the only thing to get covered in mud, she was plastered head to toe. Adam smilled as he helped clean her with water from the canteen and the corner of his cloak. Adam stifled a yawn. The sun was making him drowsy, plus he had just had a hard run and a good meal. He laid out his cloak like a blanket and lay back. Normally he would never do this outside camp, but there was something about this place that just made him feel........welcome. Feeorin took up her favourite spot, a special pocket he has sewn into his shirt, high up, almost on his shoulder, so she could speak directly into his ear, but still remain hidden and protected by his cloak. The warmth, the dappled light of the trees, the smell of thyme, were all to much for them to resist, and they drifted off to sleep.

The sudden lapse of energy that had been radiant only moments before made Zahi hesitate in the doorway of his hut. He frowned thoughtfully. Not gone. Not a complete lapse. It was like a dulling energy, not a disappearance of it. The youth still seemed to be close by. Zahi considered the change quietly before coming to the conclusion that it indicated a lack of consciousness. How this was caused Zahi had no idea. His intelligence only stretched so far, he was not a magus himself and could not possibly know what had occurred to put the youth in such a state.
With a tired resignation, Zahi decided to look for the boy. He had not had company for sometime now and the magus always burned a bright light against his mind.
It didn't take him long to locate the young magus. Asleep. Stupid boy. Anything could attack him here. He frowned angrily at the sleeping figure. If this was going to be his student then he would have to learn.
He stared down at the magus, knowing that it would not long for him to wake with Zahi's annoyed form standing over him.

Adam was in a doze. The sun was just as warm, the forest just as peacefull, but the welcoming feeling now felt different, like a memory gnawing at the back of his mind. Adam slowly returned to consciousness. He slowly started to open his eyes, and saw a blury figure above him. In less than a heartbeat his whole system fired, Adam kicked back and away from the figure, to fall backwards off the log. He flipped in the air, landed on his feet, then used his momentum to rebound to a low hanging branch behind him, he soared through the air. He had his bow out before his feet touched the branch, and a notched arrow quickly followed, pointed at the shape.
In the back of his mind Adam was raging at himself, how could he have allowed himself to fall asleep, in the forest of all places. Adam stared down the length of his arrow at the figure. It would seem human at a glance, but Adam had long since given up believing that anything in this forrest was human, apart from himself. There was a pause, after the sudden movent it seemed the world had stopped. Feeorin still in his pocket, her head now visible as he realised his cloak was still at the forms feetl. In a demanding, but not aggressive voice, Adam called "WHO ARE YOU? EXPLAIN YOURSELF"

Frowning absent-mindedly, Zahi folded his arms over his lithe body. He watched, unamused as the boy made a rather unnecessary display of getting away from him. "Idiot boy" he mumbled, quietly.
He glared up at the young figure, his eyes an exhausted but bright yellow. "I'd appreciate it if you put away that crude weapon." Zahi spoke, his voice sounding like that of the forest itself. The forest mages were after all, the physical embodiment of Obscurum Sceptrum's natural state. "I do not enjoy being threatened, and neither does this forest." A smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth as the forest demonstrated this very point. The branch that the magus was on shook with a non-existent wind.
The light dappled over his blue-green flesh, making it seem as if it were moving of its own volition, independent of his own body. Coupled with his long, tangled hair that burnt against its background like a forest-fire, Zahi made a strange image to those not familiar with the Island. Despite all his strangeness, he suited this place here. As if grown from the earth itself...Zahi was a part of it. "Since you find yourself in my home, Magus," Zahi's voice was firm and laced with annoyance. "I suggest that you owe me an explanation. Now get out of that tree, before it decides to shake you out."

Adams eyes narrowed, he had heard the mutter this creature made. And the next comment made him raise one eyebrow. "I'd appreciate it if you put away that crude weapon." Crude? Adam had always thought of his bow as majestic, elegant in its shape, it held its power in a humming tension, it was silent and took skill to wield, so unlike the firearms on the mainland, so loud and cumbersom. This creatures eyes were a glowing yellow and its skin was a sort of tinted blue, Adam thought he looked ill. "I do not enjoy being threatened, and neither does this forest." The branch Adam was standing started to shake, he had to adjust his balance quite dramatically to keep from falling off. "Since you find yourself in my home, Magus, suggest that you owe me an explanation. Now get out of that tree, before it decides to shake you out."
Adam glared back at this creature, it had used the same insult the vampires had used on him, that could mean this thing was in leagues with them. Adam lept down back onto the stump. His bow was lowered and he had let out some of the tension, but it was still very much at the ready. Feeorin came out of his pocket, she had her veil on, so she looked like a floating green ball with wings, she settled on his shoulder. "I would not so readily insult me BEAST, and consider that you were the one to wake me in such an un-friendly matter i say you owe ME an appology, but then again I dont suppose I can expect such manners from.........whatever you are, not human, thats for sure." At this point, Feeorin decided to add to the conversation. "What Adam means to say, is that you gave us quite a fright, and since you dont seem intent on eating us, we will just be on our way." Her sing-song voice always carried further than would seem reasonable, but she seemed to be speaking in a hushed tone, one of respect, Adam thought that was quite un-called for.

Zahi glowered at the boy, a quiet fury evident upon his face. "Beast?" Zahi's voice, which was usually the soft rustle of wind through the tree-tops was now the roar and anger of a forest-fire. His eyes were an orange-red so sharp that they could almost pierce flesh. "By what right, Magus, do you come into my forest and insult me? Because you are a simple creature, I will allow you some lenience. I may not be human, but you can barely use such as in insult. You are not human either. If I am a beast, than you are more so. Some humans call the Magus a bastardisation of human kind." A pause, and the forest groaned. The trees seemed to be leaning forward, branches as grasping hands and claws, feeling the anger of Zahi. In their huts, the conciousness and awareness of the other Forest Mages became a cautious hum at the back of his skull. "I suggest you leave this place. You came here with no respect. You sleep in our forest, climb it and threaten it, insult us. A few more words and you would not be welcome here." Spines bristled on Zahi's skin, growing from the flesh like little barbs, tips a poisonous red. He blinked, and they became a part of his flesh once more. He turned his eyes to the winged creature, the Vixi. His burning eyes were snake eyes. A forked tongue flicked through his lips.
"If that is what he meant to say, then he would have said it." His words weren't so unkind to her, his eyes were orange-yellow instead of orange-red (red-red-red). "Do not defend him. If you really wanted to help him then you would have taught him some respect earlier. I would hate to think that a creature such as you would lose her sense of self just because she has bonded with a beast". He put a careful exaggeration on the last word, throwing the ugly term back to where it came from.

Adam stood. As the creature made its anger known, as the forest shifted, and the creature changed from man-like, to porkupine, to snake, he stood without moving a muscle, a glare to match this creatures own. As it turned its attention to Feeorin, Adam drew back his bowstring. The threshhold was hit, where his anger became so great it turned from a burning heat to a shattering cold, his voice cold as ice and sharp as icicles. "You dare call ME a beast, you DARE...." Feeorin flew to his ear, and said one simple thing. "Shhhhh...." Her voice so gentle and soothing, Adam felt his anger slowly fade away, and he let out the tension on his bow once more. Feeorin turned back to address the creature. "Please let me explain. Adam is, by his very nature, a protector, he cant help but see the threat of things before anything else, and to this day, with the exclusion of myself, every creature of this forest he has come across has attacked him, what possible reson could he have to trust you, I appologise if we are trespassing in your home, but we came un-aware, and without malicious intent. I know he can be a bit....rough around the edges, but he has a kind heart. He saved me and my family from a Wyvern, with no thought of payment or otherwise..." Under normal circumstances Adam would have rolled his eyes, he diddnt like it when Feeorin went on about his 'heroic deeds'. Feeorin flew back to his shoulder and spoke into his ear "Put away your bow" "WHAT!!?" Adams voice was hushed, but his surprise evident, but again in that soothing tone she whispered "Trust me..." Adam still hesitated a moment, but finally he un-notched his arrow, replacing it in the quiver, and holstered his bow. Now standing tall, Adams right hand went instinctively to the double scabbard housing his Saxe and throwing knife. He shifted his weight slightly, bracing to spring back into the trees in a heartbeat should this creature turn hostile. He took a deep breath and looked the creature in the eye "If I am trespassing on your home then I shall leave, but be weary of how much you insult me Magus, Feeorin can sooth me only so much" Adam put venom into Magus, he wasnt sure what it meant, but it seemed a heavy insult amung the creatures of the forest, so he assumed it would carry the same weight as if he said beast, possibly moreso.
