It was sunny. Adam was on the edge of the forest again, among the dappled sunlight. Through the trees he could just make out the beautiful green hills that gently rolled away. Adam couldn't help himself, it was such a beautiful day, warm and comfortable with a slight breeze. He was far out enough to not have to worry about any monsters. He laid down, and dozed off against a tree.
Something stirred his senses. He slowly opened his eyes, bleary, and had quite a shock. A little creature was standing on his shoulder, and leaning over so she was face to face with him. Adam let out a shocked cry, and quite comically stumbled up. The little creature fell off and Adam jumped into the nearest branch.
He squatted on the branch panting, trying to banish the last of the sleep clinging to his mind. He looked closely at his surroundings, trying to get his breathing under control. It was now late afternoon, everything was painted a glowing orange, and long shadows stretched out, away from the setting sun. He cried out again as something brushed against his ear, then fell out of the tree, landing in a bundle on the leafy ground. He groaned, rolling over onto his stomach, then paused. A curious sound filtered down to his ears, it sounded like....giggling? He flipped onto his back and looked onto the branch he had just fallen from. There stood a stunning little creature. In the perfect form of a young woman, with clear, butterfly shaped wings behind her. Adam stared dumbfounded "A........a...fairy?"
The little creature giggled again. "No..." Her voice was incredible, gentle, soft, almost sing song. She fluttered over to Adam, a movement that was graceful and hypnotic. She landed on his chest. Adam realized his mouth was still agape and closed it. "Vixie" she said Adam could see that she was dressed in an elegant, yet simplistic outfit, all green, it hugged her form closely. Adam couldn't think of what material it was made out of, he could only guess at silk, if it was made of any material known to humans at all. Adams mind finally caught up, and he managed to choke out "ugh....you have me at a loss..." She smiled at that. She was about two apples tall, he could see her perfectly though, could make out her features, she looked like a normal girl, apart from her size and wings. "Ive been watching you, your new in this forest, aren't you?" That voice, Adam just couldn't get past that voice, it was....magical. "I'll admit, I am a newcomer to these parts" Adam couldn't think of what else to say. The little creature flexed her wings back and forth slowly. "I saw what you did to help that girl, and that vampire, that was very brave of you." Adam raised both his eyebrows. He sat up slowly, the little creature taking flight briefly, to land on his now crossed legs. "Well thank you, um.....miss, but anyone would have done the same thing." She turned her head to one side "No, they wouldn't of" She looked him up and down, as if seizing him up, but there was no fight in her eyes. They remained silent for a time. He got a closer look at her, now that his eyes were clear. She was blond, her hair seemed to be long, but she wore it back in a single pony tail. Her eyes were green, the same green the leaves were before he took his nap. She spoke up "May I ask your name?" she said politely "Oh, of course" Adam sat up straighter and put his fist to his heart, "I am Adam Strongwill" "....Adam" she repeated, as if testing the name, "I like Adam" She smiled, and he couldn't help but let slip a little grin of his own. Then she turned serious. "Adam, there was a reason i chose now to approach you" She had a guilty look for a moment, but then put on a brave face. "And that would be....." Adam asked She looked him up and down again, then, forcing her voice to stay even "My mother and sister were taken last night, I know where they are, but i cant save them by myself" She looked up at him, her eyes were watery, but she was not looking at him with a begging or a pleading expression on her face, but one of hope. Adam held his hand out to her, flat, and she stood on it. Adam stood up, faced back to the forest. She looked back in that direction, then back up at him. Adam made eye contact, before simply saying "Lead the way"

It was dark now. Adam was following the little creature. They were in a part of the forest had never been before, but that wasn't saying much, it was a BIG forest. She was giving off her own light, She no longer had a discernible form, she was a solid orb of light, though you could still see her wings. They were traveling fast, among the trees. She paused, and Adam stood, perched on a branch. "Down there" Her voice was a whisper. Adam looked down. The trees here were mammoth in size, and at the bottom of one, he could see the mouth of a burrow. That would cause a problem. She spoke up again "I'll aid you in any way that i can, but i wont be much use in open combat" "What exactly is in there?" "A Wyvern" "A What?" "It's an over-sized lizard, essentially, but it is still dangerous, it only has two arms, but it looks similar to a dragon, with teeth and claws" Adam stared at her dumbly ".....A dragon, are you serious?" "Well it only LOOKS like a dragon, it cant breath fire or anything" Adam took a deep breath, this would be interesting. "Ok, but can you stop glowing?" She turned off like a light, and her beating wings made no sound. Adams bow would be no use here, he drew his knives. He silently dropped out of the trees and flowed over to the entrance of the hollow. Underground, in an enclosed space, this would be difficult.
The entrance and what he could see of the tunnel behind was big enough that he could enter while standing on his feet, but he had to bend over almost double. He could sense the little creature next to his head, he couldn't see or hear where she was, he could just feel her. He entered slowly. It was dug out, the walls and roof was loose dirt, with the occasional tree root, Adam was careful not to touch them lest he knock lose some of the dirt. He could see a slight glow ahead. The tunnel turned at almost 90 degrees. Adam carefully looked around the corner. There was a dug out cavern, with a higher ceiling and round walls. The floor was littered with the bones of animals. Then Adam saw it, it indeed looked like a dragon, but smaller. Still big, its barrel chest rising and falling with its breathing, its wings folded, it was asleep. Adam couldn't see any more vixies, then he felt the little one land on his shoulder and whisper in his ear "There" Adam looked again, but could still not see them. "Where?" "In the fire" Adam looked in the small campfire the creature was sleeping next to, it hadn't even occurred to him that the fire was out of place in this creatures den. And then he saw them, two vixies were in the middle of the fire, they looked similar to the one in green, but these looked like they had been stained slightly red, kind of pink. Adam, keeping a close eye on the sleeping Wyvern, stepped into the cavern.
He placed his feet carefully, avoiding the bones, he could stand up straighter, but not all the way. He made it to the fire without a sound. Then carefully, he leaned closer to the fire and let out a tiny 'psssst'. One of the two red vixies turned her head and saw him, a look of shock on her face. Adam put one finger over his lips, then used it to point to the green vixie on his shoulder. The red vixie now nudged the vixie beside her, and she also looked at Adam with surprise. The green vixie flew down to land beside them, though she stayed just outside the fire. Adam picked up the tiny whispers, but couldn't make out the words. The Wyvern hadn't stirred. The green vixie flew back up to Adams shoulder and whispered in his ear. "He is keeping them captive for warmth, if they stop the fire, it will become cold and wake up" Adam looked closely at the fire, now that he looked closely, he realized there was no fuel, no sticks or leaves, no charcoal or ash, the fire was indeed coming from these little creatures. Adam dare not speak, but he already had a plan. He took the small tinder box out of his belt, it contained dry bark and some sticks, they would burn for a Minuit or two on their own. Adam emptied the box next to the vixies, then held out his hand flat on the ground. Thankfully these little creatures were smart enough to realize his plan. They lit the kindle, then stopped their own fire and hopped on his hand. Adam lifted them to his shoulder and started to move. His shoulder was cramped, but the three vixies were clinging to each other now, the green one having dropped her veil. They reached the entrance without incident. But as Adam jumped to the first branch, he heard a furious roar. "The fire wasn't hot enough!!!!" He heard one of the red vixies squeal in a terrified voice. Adam took all three of them off his shoulder, they hovered in front of him, he addressed the green one "You know where my camp is? She nodded "Take them there, I'll meet you later" She paused for a moment "NOW!!!" With that Adam dropped back onto the ground and drew his bow. The Wyvern came charging out, and Adam could now see the viciously barbed tail. He shot off three arrows in a heartbeat, then jumped into the trees. His arrows impacted, but simply bounced off its scales. It chased after him. Adam was fast. He jumped from branch to branch, faster than any person could sprint on the ground below him, and it almost worked. But then the Wyvern spread its wings and took flight. It was around 2 meters long, but it was incredibly lithe. It flew around trunks and branches like it was water. Adam realized he would have no hope of outrunning it, so that meant it was time to fight. Adam spun in midair and shot off more arrows at the creature, before twisting again and landing facing forward. His arrows just bounced off again, and only seemed to make it mad. The Wyvern was right on his heels now. Adam jumped straight at an immense trunk, he looked like he was about to collide with it, but at the last moment he positioned his legs in front of him, and kicked off it. He jumped high and in a perfect backflip. The Wyvern was not as quick, it slammed into the trunk with all its force. Adam landed as the Wyvern slid to the ground dazed. Quick as a flash Adam drew his Saxe knife and lunged forward. He brought the tip of his knife down with all his force on the top of its skull. The beast bellowed in fury and pain, but Adams knife still did not pierce the skin, but the sheer blunt force of his strike had felt like it did SOMETHING. He didn't stop, but continued fleeing. He was going as fast as he could. His whole body was beginning to burn. The roars continued as the Wyvern took up chase again, this time in a blood rage.
Adam felt the creature lung, rather then seen it. He dropped of the branch he was currently on, he positioned himself so he fell back first. As the creature passed overhead, in the space he had been less than a second before, Adam struck out with his knife again, dragging it along the beasts underbelly. e still didn't do any damage, and this time his gamble cost him. He couldn't re-position himself in time, and crashed to the ground, right on top of a rock. Adam landed awkwardly, and his left ankle took most of the force, bending it at an angle it was not meant to go, before the bones finally gave way with a sickening crack. Adam cried out in pain, temporarily blinded to everything else by the pain. When a furious roar broke him out of his pain, the Adrenalin pumping through his system. He could hear it crashing through the forest, it wasn't even trying to avoid the branches anymore. Adam had another trick up his sleeve. He couldn't pierce the skin, but he KNEW he had cause damage to the creatures skull. He got up on one knee. He switched his arrows from the razor sharp, light and aerodynamic ones, to his thick, heavy and blunt ones, that while they were in the shape of an arrow head, couldn't fly almost at all, they were suited for inflicting massive blunt force trauma at close range, which was exactly what he needed now. Adam drew his bow back, ALL the way, putting the entire 250 N force behind it, enough to crush stone. He waited. He could hear it getting closer. He waited. The branches were swaying now. He waited. It looked like the leaves were about to be ripped apart. He took a deep breath, and everything went into slow motion. The Wyvern burst from the trees, its jaws wide, revealing its wicked teeth. It's wings open to their full span. It's claws outstretched, ready to tear him to pieces. Adam focused on only one thing, his target. He felt the tension in his bow, he felt the weight of the arrow, he adjusted his aim ever so slightly. And he released, the arrow rocketed forward heading straight, and impacted exactly where he had wanted it to, on the wing bone, just before it connected to the shoulder. Bird bones were hollow, to reduce weight and enable flight, Adam reasoned that this creatures bones, at the very least its wing bones, must also be hollow as well, and it turned out he was right. Adams arrow shattered it like it was glass, it would be useless now, but then Adam realized the fatal flaw in his plan.
The beasts wing was indeed useless, but that didn't stop its momentum, momentum that was headed right for him. Adam tried to leap out of the way, but as he put pressure on his ankle he was racked with incredible pain, and it only took that moment of hesitation for the Wyvern to come crashing into him. The impact was like being hit by a bus. Adam was thrown off his feet. His bow was flung from his hand and his arrows fell out of his quiver to be scattered all over the place. Adam slammed up against a tree, having the wind knocked out of him. He gasped on the ground for a few moments before he could take in a full breath. But when he tried, it sent knives through him, he realise that his ribs were broken, how many he could not be sure, but every little movement, breathing included, sent searing pain through him. The Wyvern was not defeated. It could fly no more, but its two front legs were still very much functional, and its infuriated roar meant it was looking to take all its pain out on Adam.
Adam, putting ALL his effort into it, dragged himself to lean against the trunk of a tree. The Wyvern let out another roar of fury, and charged straight at him. So this was how it was to end. Such a waste, Adam thought. Then he thought about everything, his life, what he had done, and what he still had to do. There was so much left to do. Adam despaired that he wouldnt be able to rebuild his coven, that he wouldnt be able to bring those who killed his family to justice. He thought about how he had never been in love. Adam diddnt think he was meant to ever feel love, he always knew he would die like this, in a grand battle against an incredible opponent while defending a princess.....Well, Adam thought. I might not be able to kill it, but i can give it something to remember me by. The beast was almost upong him. Adam mustered up the last of his strength. He drew his last weapon, the wickedly sharp throwing knife. He used all his shill and training and focus, and sent it sailing. It flew through the air like some glimmering angle of death, and impacted into the Wyverns left eye. It let out a SHRIEK of pain and wheeled off to one side. Adam watched it. It writhed around in pain, twisting and arching, let out howls and wails and cries and hisses. Then it went silent, and lay still. "So, you DID manage to kill it" Adam turned to the familiar little sing-song voice, and sure enough, the little green vixie, along with the two red ones, were standing on a root beside him. "Yeah, well, thanks for all the help" Adam let out a deep sigh, his ankel was broken, his ribs were broken, he was exhausted and in pain. "We only just got here, and besides, your to tough to be killed by a Wyvern" she said "Well THANK YOU[/] for having SO much confidence in me" The Wyvern was litterally dead at his feet. Adam drew up his leg and gave it a good hard kick. Then the world went into slow motion. The beast bellowed, it raised its taloned hand and struck out at the vixies on the root. Adam wasnt quite sure what happened next. All he could piece together was that he was looking down at the vixies, he was holding himself above them like he was doing a pushup, but they had horrified expressions on their faces, then Adam looked down. There were talons protruding from his chest, soaked in blood. In fact, blood was getting over everything quite quickly. Adams vision started to black out, everything went muted. He felt his arms give out from under him, but the darkness consumed him, and he never felt his head hit the ground.

The world was dampened and fuzzy. Adam slowly opened his eyes, blinking to try and clear the blur. Adam moved slighly and was hit by a wall of pain. He lay still, and after a few minuits it faded to a dull ache, but EVERYTHING ached. Adam let out a low moan in a drawn out breath. "Oh shush you" The voice was small and strained, but was filled with amusement and comfort, it was a tell-tale sing-song pitch. Adam looked down slightly. The Little Vixie was lying on his chest, she looked exhausted, but that wasnt all. He blond hair was now a radient brown, and instead of being tied up in a single ponytail, was let loose. It hung down past her shoulders. Her clothes had changed to. While it still looked generally the same make, it now mimicked Adams cloak, the mottled greens and browns of the forest, in fact, if she were to lean against Adams cheast, she would be indistinguishable from his cloak. He wings were also more translucent, and not as shiny, they drew less attention and were less noticable. What had NOT changed however, were her eyes. Still that glorios, bright glowing green of the leaves in sunlight, and they were meeting his. "What.....happened, exactly?" She took a deep breath and lay her head back down against his chest, to tired to hold it up. "You saved my sister and mother from the Wyvern, but it chased us. You lured it away, but we couldnt let you face it on your own, so we followed. You actually managed to beat it, but in its death it struck out with one last attack, and caught us off guard. You threw yourself in front of us, you saved us, again, but it cost you, you were......dying" The last word came out in a whisper. She looked up again to meet his eyes. "It took everything all three of us had to heal you, and we werent sure it would be enough, but you...." She paused "I what?" She lay her head down once more, and whispered. "You have a strong heart." Adam diddnt know what to say to that, so he let his head fall back again and closed his eyes. "Thank you....for saving me" "You saved us first" "So.....what now?" "Now? we should probably get back to your camp before dark, but thats still a whole day off, dawn broke while you were un-concious. And after that? well, wherever you go, I'll follow" Adam was puzzled "Why's that?" She looked at him again "Because i bonded myself to you" "And what does that mean" The playfull, sly tone came back into her voice "That means your mine now tough guy" She smiled, and again adam couldnt help but let out a little grin. "This bonding sounds as if its important, yet i dont know the first thing about you" "Well you know two things at least" "And they would be...." "That i am yours as much as you are mine" "And the second?" "......my name is Feeorin, Feeorin Hailglimmer" "Adam, Adam Strongwill" A chill breeze kicked up, and Feeorin shivvered. Adam, despite the pain, raised his hand, and gently covered her, almost like a blanket. There was still so much left un-answered, so much left un-explained, but right then, right there, Adam KNEW this little spark would come to mean so much to him. So he let his head rest on the ground, and fell asleep. Feeorin, now sheltered from the breeze by Adams hand, thought exactly the same thing, before she to, drifted off to sleep.
