Leaves swirled rapidly, falling in chaotic routine. Branches swayed delightfully, one after the other. While creatures playfully tugged at one another, as if excited, or fearful for something only they could feel.
Thump...
There.
An echo thudded throughout the clearing of the hollow. Leaving it undisturbed by anyone or anything. It was the humming that came from the echo's that remained in the ears of all, carving deep into the mind's surrounding. Bringing about a dull fear of the unknown. A line of dread to those's who's stomachs weren't prepared for such a focus of energy.
It was illogical, the way even the trees seemed to dance. Fast, yet slow. With each thump, they seemed to reply by swaying faster, to some unknown being.
The energy, for all the other things the forest seemed to be doing, no one could possibly ignore the almost pure amount of energy pulsating from one particulate tree. As ancient as the island itself. Thick roots surrounded it, as if protecting the rest of the mighty tree. The top of it, hardly see-able, for it reached into the clouds, as if touching the heavens, for it admitted a bright glow.
There was more to this tree, for all it's glory, it seemed to be dieing. The leaves falling toward the rest of the forest's foliage. Returning to the earth. It's leaves, no longer a green of health, but of death, shining a sickly brown-orange.
Thump.
A pulsation emitted, as it did so, a crack appeared at the bottom of the ancient tree. Like a hidden door was being revealed. Then, the most cringe worthy sound echoed out. Gaining in noise, like a crying human baby mixed with the screaming of thousands of caged up deer.
The old, mighty tree was in absolute agony.

He had just stepped out of his hut when it hit him. That noise.
That Noise
One step forward and he was on his knees. It seemed like the whole forest was screaming, dying, burning up in invisible, cold flames. Zahi felt every ounce of it. He too was a part of the forest and so he too felt that same pain. His hands were buried in the leaf litter, balling into fists, scratching at the ground. The earth was beneath his fingernails. Eyes that were of the brightest green only seconds before were now almost black. He choked back a cry of agony. A cry of fear and pain so acute that if voiced it would destroy a part of this beloved forest.
It seemed an age before he was able to steady his mind against the pain enough to get to his feet. Even then, each footstep felt like a hammer against his skull. The tall and silent Mage whimpered.
If he could determine the source of the noise...
He felt drawn to it. Drawn to that searing noise. He followed the instinct that was bringing him closer to the scream, closer to the pain. Every step brought a deeper wash of pain. It seemed impossible that it could get any worse from moment to moment and yet it always did. By the time he reached the source his was on all fours oncemore, using every ounce of strength within him to keep moving forward.
It was the tree. The revelation startled him. This tree... It had been an object of play in his childhood. All the young Mages flocked here, it was so full of life, so vibrant. But now it was different. Decaying. Zahi thought that it was that screaming pain that was causing it's death. Something in the back of his mind told him so.
But this pain was crushing him. He could do no more now than sit here, fighting back nausea. Fighting back a lack of conciousness. There was something warm on his cheek. A tear? No. No... It was a trickle of blue-green blood pooling from the corner of his eye.

For a split second, the forest seemed to gleam with joy, it was lost within the screams. Yet it still broke through for that split second. The ancient tree rocked with force which broke branches, sending them collapsing to the ground. Flocks of birds flew blindly away from the disturbance, having their poor little hearts frightened.
The crack that had formed, swiftly jolted, ripping apart. Opening.
With it, the agony filled screams intensified. Before abruptly silencing. The silence, eerily seemed to creep up, for nothing was making noise. Yet, the tree continued to open. The glow the tree had been surrounded by all these years dimmed as it was slowly drawn back into the opening. Looking as if, finally the tree was giving up, choosing to let the life drain from it.
The humming vibrated with the glow, like a slow heart beat. Thumping lazily with the forest's life. Increasing with each beat. Until, as if it would burst, the tree shuttered in what it would seem coldness. Before splitting evenly, through the middle in two giant pieces. Remaining still, yet the form of something was there. Unmoving in all the chaos that surrounded the immobile being. With it, the being was encased in ice. Limbs having marking of the deepest blue. It still hummed, the heart beat having returned to a steady pace. It was clear it was coming from the form between the two split pieces of the ancient tree. What was more odd, was the way the form's legs were attached to the bottom of the tree. It was as if they were one.
Still, a tenseness passed as soon as the the beating began. A warning of death rang through to all if they neared. But also it called forth those of the same, those that shared the forest with the ease only a forest mage could.

It had felt as if he were going to die. That growing, swelling pain on all sides of him, living in everything around him, living in his very core.
And then it was gone.
That scream, that pain, it left behind nothing. Just empty air. There were no aches in his body, no pain in his head. The only sign that there had ever been anything wrong was that slow trickle of blood on his cheek. Even the forest seemed calm. Relaxed. At ease despite the haunting memory it now held. Zahi fought the urge to slump onto the ground. His muscles went slack and it was suddenly an effort to keep himself upright.
The silence itself seemed deafening after a moment. Zahi would've thought he'd lost any ability to hear sound if not for the low humming vibration that filled the air around him. Would it grow into the same again? He feared that this was the start of another great sound, another great pain upon his forest. Was the lapse in the scream nothing more than a cruel rest?
No. No. It was the tree. Still, the tree. His attention was fixiated on it. Something strange was happening here. Something that would resound across the entire island in times to come. He should be afraid. But he couldn't bring himself to be so.
He rose to his feet on shaky legs, he could barely hold his own weight. Forward, by a few unsure steps, toward the tree. He was fascinated by it, by what was happening to it. Zahi couldn't quite make out what the tree had been hiding. A few steps more. It was confusing. A little bit closer.
He stopped, not daring to come any closer to this thing that caused an awakening of his most primal instincts. Instead he stood staring into that which seemed to be the beating heart of Obscurum Sceptrum.

A breath of life passed between lips of the most purest blue. A faint glow of silver leaving them, as new air fought it's way through the ice surrounding it. The form the lip's belonged to, was morphing. The roots from the old tree seemed to be fading, while a body was becoming known. Slim shoulders that were dusted with dark blue, faded to a lighter blue as it continued all the way down to a set of arms, and hands. Fingers twitched as finger nails grew a dark hue of blue. All over, a feminine form was taking place, as if growing. The glow of light dimming as it did so, to an almost bearable level.
The ice surrounding the feminine form, began melting at a swift rate. Leaving more space, where there was but tree before. This caused a slow flutter from the form's dark eye lashes. Free from it's encased prison at last, the forest was the welcoming party to, it would seem, a female. That had somehow managed to make the ancient tree open itself up from the inside, as if giving birth to this being.
Yet, the beating stopped in it's tracks, for eyelids moved and opened. Shining through a wicked set of icy light blue eyes. Still they were wrong. The whole eye was coloured, leaving no white to depict the black of the iris. Unfocused. As they spun round to find some sort of familiarity.
Without needing to open it's mouth, the being seemed to be crying. As a wave of despair spread through her form, running wild into the forest. With it came mobility. The form rising, displaying the raw beauty of flesh, tinged blue and absolutely naked.
Eyes set themselves onto a beating heart in front. A head tilted to the side, in a display of curiosity. The forms dark blue hair followed the movement without difficulty. No words spoken as it appeared to be trying to understand where it was.
