Halo tilted his head at Elysia he couldn;t quite figure what to do next. The small voice was telling him that this was a good idea. His experience said it was a bad one. He only knew that people who saw the curse usually shared in his misfortune but everything was happening to his now slow mind.. Human interaction is a fast paced chess game. Within lonliness there is no trial nor error. He was left dumbfounded as a friendship unfolded strangly in front of his eyes.
"umm... My Names Halo.... Whats yours?" He said nervously. He could feel every little thing and he swore the universe froze for a second... His hair's light touch on hsi hidden scars. The tight warmth of clothes and the curious scratching of insect legs on his neck...

Elysia smiled at Halo. His nervous voice somehow made her calm, as she was not the only one who had trouble with conversation. It was a new feeling for her, as everyone else always seemed so confident in what they said, not caring what others might think or say. Her developing friendship with Halo gave her a warm feeling inside (or that could have been the fire...), and would be full of new experiences.
"My name is Elysia," she said, still warming herself from the fire hovering in Halo's hands, "Thankyou again for the fire..."

The grass hopper sitting on the back of Halo's head sighed as he heard the broken conversation. As if every know and then the universe just paused and then restarted. It wasn't exactly that interesting to him....
Thankyou again for the fire.. "th-th-thank you...." Halo thought to himself. People so often in life looked at things one sided. Fire is a destroyer it is the bringer of death and burning. Even the religous myths depicted there place of punishment as consumed in flame.
Halo could see this side and he honoured the hunger. It was afterall just trying to make a living. Like an ant or a cockroach stealing food. He sourly thought to himself seeing how people treated such things already.
This girl was in fear when he had his sleave on fire... She looked at it with worry. Now she was bathing in its warmth and thanking its existence. "No th-thank you" Halo said befor realising she wouldn;t understand. "um.. why are you?" If only Halo could see the grass hopper on the back of his head face palming... or face legging...
"How are you?" he said correcting himself a little to loudly.

"No th-thank you" "um.. why are you?" "How are you?"
Elyisa watched as Halo fumbled his words, then corrected himself a little to obviously. His mind seemed to be wandering a little, making the conversation a little stop-start. Not the Elysia minded, as she was relishing actually being the more confident one in the conversation.
Elysia giggled. "I'm fine thankyou. Thanks to your fire." She looked around, and noticed that the kissing couple had deserted the courtyard. Now the only ones left we herself and Halo. "It's so nice out here... Maybe be we could make a proper campfire?"

I'm fine thankyou. Thanks to your fire My fire.... Such a self serving phrase. How does one inspire ownership. Merely its creator? Then the curse would own the fire.. in subtilty to how fire ruled his life. If it truly was his fire he would like it to to be the fires choice... He thought to himself inocently looking at his glowing orange friend.
scratch scratch scratch Halo simply ignored the irritating bug legs on his neck.
The reminder of anoyance brought him back out his fiery world and he remembered the soft giggle that escaped from Elysia's mouth. It wasn't an unfamilliar sound but it was different. Usually giggles where harsh and cutting. Followed by him tripping over some one's foot or that one time he had let toilet paper stick to his shoe.
Once again lost in a bizare world of his own he was brough back by the curious scratch scratch scratch He watched the soft flow of words escape her mouth and considered it to himself. "we would need wood" *There will be plenty of that stuff one day... beleive me..* The strange voice again echoed in his head but he managed to push it out with the small burst of happiness that he had found a glimering friend in this mine of lonliness.

we would need wood Yes we would, Elysia thought to herself, but i don't think that either of us really want to go and look for it...
A small nudge at her ankle interrupted her thoughts. She looked down to find a tabby cat looking back up at her.
She must have been attracted by the light of the fire...
Elysia had an idea. She had met this cat before, and knew how to talk to it. The cat knew the grounds better than Elysia did, so if there was a good place to collect wood, then the cat would know it.
Kneeling down to stroke the cat (who had been weaving between Elysia's legs), she broke off an unburnt twig from the bush. Showing the cat, she mewed the sounds for "more" and "where". The cat made a nodding movement with its head to show it understood.
"Halo, the cat will show us where we can find some wood," she said, continuing to stroke the cat.

"Nyau.. *purrs*.. nyaaau" It was such an interesting and suprisingly beautiful thing to see. Halo couldn't help but smile none of him finding the event strange. Halo, the cat will show us where we can find some wood He had to shoot himself into attention at the directness of his name. He shook it off and smiled at her. It was nice to be smiling so naturally at another human being.
Yeah i bet that cat knows where a nice fag is Halo tilted his head that defenatly wasn't his thoughts... He didnt even know what a fag was. He considered asking but decided he should ask later assuming it wouldnt be as weird then. "okay.. let him lead the way" He said looking at the girl with his one eye. Swaering he could feel a little bit oof warmth in his eye.

Halo had smiled. It wasn't a shy smile, or a smiling that happens when someone is trying not to laugh at you. It was a warm, happy smile. Elysia couldn't help but return it, as they both set off following the cat.
The cat moved quickly, but stopped every so often to allow Halo and Elysia to catch up.
"I wonder where its going..." Elysia said to herself. She looked around at her surroundings as she continued following the cat. A large tree on the far side of the courtyard stood out as a possible place for wood.
Speaking to the cat, Elysia mewed "tree" adding an upward inflection to indicate a question. She liked this cat. For a while it had been her only friend, back when she had first started at the Academy. Now it would seem that she had two good friends, thanks to Halo and his burning bush.

Halo looked up to the tree. He had to wince his reveled eye for a second at the shine of the sun. His other ye though looked through the dark folds of heavy hair and looked at the tree. Dark and grey was the world of his dead eye. It saw the tree as merely branches and black burns. Halo ignored the sudden intrusion of darkness and reopened his other eye. It was so beautiful. The type of tree out of poem.
"I think he... she... ummm..." Halo fumbled for the gender of the cat not wanting to be rude. "mistook your request..." He tilted his head at the girl not yet finding a flaw in the idea of asking a cat for directions. mmmm leaves.... Halo once again ignored the small voice and looked around wandering if he could see any stray wood.
It wasn't strange at all to be smiling like this. Halo thought to himself as he thought about how much he relied on the little things to keep him happy and now a big thing was here and it was too much for his small innocent heart to take.

I think he... she... ummm... mistook your request...
"...maybe your right... It is sometimes hard to get the exact meaning of what you want across," said Elysia, joining Halo in the search for wood, "oh... and it's a she by the way."
The cat began to mew loudly, not saying anything in particular, but more just trying to get the attention of the two humans who were looking in the wrong place.
Elysia went over to investigate. To her surprise, the cat had in fact understood perfectly well. A branch had fallen off the tree, and would be perfect for firewood.
"It looks like she understood after all. There's more than enough wood over here!"

Halo turned his head and nodded to himself. He wanted to go over to the cat but immediately realized the way it was staring at his hair. *sigh... why can't cats get along with me...* He looked at Elysia his eyes pleading for her to pet the cat.
Your a weird pair indeed... Once again said the small voice on the side of Halo's head. I'm glad your not letting it up here look at the way its staring at me Halo winced an eye at the voice. Starring at 'it' was his Hair talking to him.. was this all some sort of strange illusion and really he was rolling on the ground intoxicated by the fumes from the tree he burnt down.
"would you like em to carry it" Halo asked shyly he had never offered a favour before and he immediately thought it was a strange and bad idea that would end the newly sparked friendship.

Elysia was surprised by Halo's offer to help. Normally, she would have just collected it by herself, making multiple trips if she couldn't take enough the first time, or possibly asking any large enough animals nearby to help.
"Oh, okay... You can carry it if you want to," she said, wondering if that was the answer that he wanted, as sometimes people only asked out a politeness, hoping that you would answer no.
There wasn't very much wood to carry (one person would be enough), so Elysia instead bent over to pick up the cat. She noticed that it seemed to be staring at Halo. Maybe it's because she doesn't know him... Elysia decided that she would wait until they had a nice fire going before pursuing that thought.

Halo was flushed with joy as she accepted his offer. He bent down and picked up all the wood he could only to be showered with water dew and a few ants. He shook his head for a second and just smiled as the ants scurried off him instinctively running away from the fire they could sense.
He stood up straight and tall in the cold wisping breeze waiting for the damsel to guide him to the woods destination. He would of liked the scene to look like that but instead there was boy struggling under the slightly unimpressive weight of scraggly branches. He didn't let that get his spirits down and he maintained a wobbling upright position.
Heavy enough for you said the ignored voice.

Elysia stroked the cat as she guided Halo back to the blackened bush. "This is probably the best place for the campfire, " she said, gesturing towards the bush, "Everything that could catch fire is already burnt." She giggled, remembering the earlier events of the evening.
She gently placed the cat back onto the ground. It's still staring at him...
"Do you want to give her a pat? She's been staring at you the whole way back here. I think it's because she doesn't know you. Don't worry, she won't bite or anything."

Halo laughed at the mock about his little accident. He put down all the wood and tried re arranging them like he'd seen in pictures. Sort of like a tent something he was well accustomed to.
He made eye contact with the cat but it failed to meet his eye as it just starred at his matted black hair like it was a ball of yarn.
Do you want to give her a pat? She's been staring at you the whole way back here. I think it's because she doesn't know you. Don't worry, she won't bite or anything Halo stretched his mouth to the right. "Cats don't really get along with me..." He said shyly. That thing is still starring at me! Halo twisted his head to the right to try and track the voice.
"don't bother looking for me I'll come out soon enough" Halo bit his cheek and mentally nodded before looking back at Elysia. Motioning to the small tee-pee of wood "This good?"

Elysia looked down at Halo's arrangement of the wood. "That's perfect! Now we just need to light it and we'll have a campfire."
Elysia sat down near enough to the wood so that when it was lit, the warmth would penetrate the cold air around her. She expected the cat to climb into her lap as it usually would if said lap was available, but it did not. Instead it continued its relentless staring at Halo.
"Are you sure you won't give her a pat?... I am completely sure that she won't bite or scratch you. Please? She's never stared at anyone like this before... If other cats haven't gotten along with you, that doesn't have to be true about ALL cats..."

That's perfect! Now we just need to light it and we'll have a campfire Halo was tempted to smile with pride but the cats watchful judging eyes were making him weary of doing such. The idea of every single one of them wishing to reveal his dark secret was too much too just blame on common likings. He knew it had to be part of his curse. Still he liked to just blame it on the stringiness of his hair.
"I just don't feel comfortable around cats...." Halo only half lied. "dogs too... neither seem to really appreciate me..." Halo clicked his fingers on some dry grass he had put between sticks and set them a light. It was beautiful watching the opal flame. Consuming the leaves and bark and leaving the ashes for a new to grow in its place. In the moment fire was beautiful and disastrous but if one were to watch a single a flame for the rest of eternity they would see how it managed to sustain life perhaps even more than it takes.
"OH GREAT! with the bush fires again!" Said a promiscuous red and black grass hopper. The toll of age was obvious followed by a seedy look in his eyes. He seamed to shimmer between a grass hopper and a human of its size equivalent. Floating red a nd black robes and a Japanese style brown fan with a crude metal walking stick seemed to meld with the grass hopper body to replace one of its six legs and the fan to repair one of its broken wings.
"You might be indestructable when it comes to flame but some of us aren't!" "Take the new radiant and exuberant tooshi you know have accompanying you" His old voice seeming to change to a much lighter one as he turned to face the girl. Most would sweart that his eyes became love hearts between glances.

Elysia sighed as the warmth of the fire began to spread through the air around her. The dancing flames were beautiful and seemed to light up the whole area where Elysia and Halo (and the cat) were sitting.
"This is wonderful," said Elysia, smiling at Halo, "It reminds me of my time in the forest back home..."
Elysia reached over, picked up the cat and placed it in her lap. After a loud, disgruntled meow, it settled into a soft purring as Elysia began stroking it. However, it continued to stare at Halo. Elysia, completely confounded by this strange behaviour, chose to ignore it.
"Um... how did you learn to do that anyway?... Make the fire appear and disappear I mean," asked Elysia, as she continued to stroke the cat.

"I'd reply normally she can't hear me, or see me for that matter" "don't worry about talking back if I concentrate hard i can read your thoughts" Said the small strange pervey grasshopper. Halo Himself tried to concentrate on Elysia maybe too much. So much deceit and trickery it couldn't be good for you. "Ummm just sorta found me... woke up and there it was" Halo looked down at his feet. He felt so guilty about ignoring the grasshopper and lying to the girl about the presence of it.
Halo waved his fingers and let the fire twirl through them as it slowly turned into something that resembled a Chinese dragon. Halo made it walk in the air above him. "Me and fire have always been friends.." He said with a warm smile. He made the dragon skip over to Elysia making sure its flames didn't actually touch her. That fundamental flaw in human feeling was the reason man could never truly be friends with it's creators.
"ANYWAY!!!!" Halo Jumped for a second but did his best to conceal as he fell of his log. Making the roll to obvious and flailing his arms The Grasshopper stared at him blankly before clearing its throat. "so... I bet you're wondering why I'm here? Well thats simple it's because..." The unperceived figure was now interrupted by something as he gained an annoyed expression.

Elysia watched in awe as the fiery dragon swirled around her. It felt like a fantasy come to life. She opened her mouth, about to express this awe, when suddenly the dragon disappeared into the air as Halo fell off his log.
Lifting the now ragdoll-like, almost-asleep cat from her lap, Elysia stood up and helped Halo up from the ground. Or at least, that's what she would have done if the cat hadn't suddenly "awakened" and practically pounced onto Halo's head.
"Off!" she said sternly, not bothering with using meows as the cat knew fully well what she meant. Unfortunately it ignored her. Even more unfortunately for Halo, as it was now playing with his hair as if it was a ball of yarn. She picked up the cat, a little more rough than she normally would. "You are very naughty, do you know that?" she said, scolding the cat before turning her attention to Halo, "Are you oka-- Oh my god... "
Halo's hair had been pushed aside by the cat, and now the right side of his face could be seen. Elysia couldn't help but stare, as she tried to take in the mass of scars that covered the side of his face... and his one dark eye.
