The lake. Lake Crystal. It was the one place she'd never really visited as a young girl at the academy. It was also the last place she expected to find herself stopping at now. She'd been on her way to the forest when the rising light from the sun had stopped her. It wasn't often she was up early enough to witness a sunrise, and this one surely wasn't about to disappoint her.
The growing light from the sun tinged the sky a shade or so light of a blue. The clouds, currently gathered, but steadily moving apart, were tinged a deep purple on the top of their fluffy hills, while the bottom was bathed in a brilliant orange. The tree tops were steadily growing greener in the increasing light, the birds popping from their nests to greet the morning.
The scene reflected in the waters of the lake, the surface smooth as stone in the calm air. Evelynn found herself drawn towards the painted picture on the surface. The dew in the grass of the lawns dampened her shoes, and her unstockinged feet; she had to lift the hem of her dress, a simple light blue gown over a white shift, to keep it from getting wet as well.
As the edge of the water drew nearer, Evelynn switched the the gravel that led to a cluster of large boulders, big enough to rest on with a sketch pad or a book for those that fancied those activities. And big enough that the girl felt comfortable enough walking further out in the water so as long as she were on them.
At the middle of a boulder, about 50 feet from the natural edge of the lake, she stopped to sit. There were two or three more boulders leading out, but she could will her feet to move no farther. Evelynn curled her legs beneath her, hidden by her skirts, and with a hand pulled her hair, tied back with a ribbon that matched her dress, over her shoulder. Repeatedly she had to remind herself of the rock beneath her, separating her from the water. But she'd just had to get a closer look at the sunrise.

Elias shifted uncomfortably in the shade of a considerably large tree. He had finished his shift not a full hour ago and had come to the lake to do what he always did, sit and watch the water. After a night full of beer and vomit, the open air was always refreshing. Clean. He didnt seem the type for clean, but any who worked the Devil's Drink on night shift longed for it.
But there was a problem with his routine. He didn't accomadate for anyone else being at the lake. Especially not a female. Especially not in his spot. Oh, he knew he was being childish, but Elias really didn't like being interrupted. He didn't like his plans changing when it wasn't him who changed them.
He rocked on his heel s for a second, before deciding to approach her, whoever she was. A little, logical voice in the back of his mind told him he should probably leave her alone. It had been, however, a bad night. And he really didn't like the fact that she was in his spot. Really.

The sun was climbing higher in the sky by now. The tops of the clouds were still a color of purple, but the shade had lightened enough that hues of pink and a dark blue could wind there way through. The bottoms, formerly orange, were now a gentle shade of gold, and growing steadily lighter.
The sound of feet padding over rock broke through the calm of her sunrise. Glancing over her shoulder Evelynn could see a sturdy man stalking towards her. The woman scrambled to her feet, moving further out on the rock as she did so, to stay farther from the man. She certainly was a friendly person, but her body was screaming at her to run from this person, this stranger.
She was acutely aware of just how far from the water's edge she was. The end of her boulder and the beginning of the next were only a few short paces behind her, and she was already at 57 feet from the shore. Through all this, her brain reminded her she had yet to say anything to the man in front of her. And Evelynn remained that way. Silent and unmoving from her new position facing the man and too far into the water, regardless of being on boulders, for her comfort.

Elias watched her back up with a bemused expression. He forgot that the persona and apperance he took on for the rough crowd of the Underground could be intimidating, especially in a place such as this. As calm and beautiful as it was.
She was no longer in his spot, he noticed. It was free of any occupant. Yet she was still there, steps away from him, he was still uncomfortable in her prescence. This had always been sort of secret spot for him, especially at this early hour. What was she even doing here? He had to wonder, never once had he met someone else while spending his mornings on the lake.
He sat on the boulder he had claimed many years ago, watching the woman with a blank face. He sighed. "You don't need to throw yourself into the lake. I've already had food this morning, I won't eat you".

Evelynn's body remained glued to the spot on the boulder. She certainly didn't plan on moving any farther out on the rocks, closer to the water's edge. If it weren't for the boy standing in front of her now, she'd have probably made her way back to the grass and on to the forest.
The woman gave a gentle, somewhat nervous chuckle. "Believe me," she responded, her voice warm though clearly without her usual calm. "I don't plan on jumping into the lake." Though he commented he wouldn't eat her, she wouldn't put it past him to take a nibble or two if provoked. As such, she held her ground, refusing to move either towards the boy or away. She was caught in the middle of a fear and an apprehension.

Elias dropped his shoulders and let out a low breath. His eyebrow twitched as he looked at the woman. He wasn't that scary. It wasn't like he made small children run, or put fear into the hearts of delicate girls. He should know, C.C seemed delicate enough and she was all but intimidated by him. He shook the stray thought from his head.
"Well, if you intend to just stand there, go ahead. I won't interrupt you." He didn't really care what she did, he had no patience for this woman who seemed so ridiculously fearful. No one could say he didn't try, he had spoken to her. It was more than he usually did for strangers. Elias shifted on the rocka little, preparing to wait her out.

Evelynn sighed, running a hand through her hair. She moved stiffly away from the water and past the boy, visibly relaxing the minute her feet left the rocks and the water behind her. This boy could think whatever he wanted to, and it was clear from his demeanor he thought her a lunatic.
"I'm perfectly content to watch from here," she replied. With a small shrug of her shoulders as her usual cheerfulness returned, she added, "I'll have to run soon regardless." And by that she meant returning to the town, a path winding through the forest the quickest route, to feed the two younger children she left at home.

Elias watched the way she moved past him with raised eyebrows, biting back laughter.
"Run. Right. What are you running from?" He gave her a lopsided, mocking smile. "Not me, surely?" He patronized her. He may as well make fun while he was here, there was little better to do and his morning ritual didn't usually come with complimentary entertainment.
