The halls were quiet, strangely empty and deserted. Was this the way this retched school always was? But Rosaline didn't mind too much. She was used to being in a large home, wandering halls by her lonesome. Her family, her real family, was still a prominent family in Scotland, their heritage tracing back to the true Celtic lines of Kings and Queens. They owned a large estate where the family and friends shared cottages or stayed in the main housing. Rosaline herself had insisted upon a small cottage, though she often left it to be in the main house.
Now, as she walked through the halls of the school, a silver dress with black lace along the bottom hem tickling her legs, she found herself wishing to return there almost as much as she had longed to leave. At the end of the corridor was a large window and the girl felt drawn to it, to the fresh scent of the outside and the light it let in. Rosaline lifted herself up to sit on the sill once she'd reached it. Her head fell back against the stones of the wall behind her, her curls resting gently on her shoulders. Her eyes searched the grounds outside and she leaned closer to see more.

Gillian walked quickly through the corridoor, his arms ladden with papers bound for the Headmasters office. There was no need for him to be rushing, but the castle-like school was to dull for his bright mood, when the town and forest below seemed so inviting.
He had no classes to teach today, so he had planned to go explore the little town. He hadn't seen a day look so bright since he arrived. Mostly the little island was gloomy, as if it was caught in some unusual weather cycle determined by its location.
Gillian looked up, feeling the creeping sunlight from a window nearby. His eyes caught on a form in the window, one who's face he took a few seconds to place. 'Rosaline?' He smiled. Of course, she was in his class.

Leon was walking down the corridor when he saw both Rosaline and Master Gillian's figures,"hey sir" he quickly said as he was walking by. Then his eyes quickly glistened back to Rosaline who's eyes were fixed on sir's, "hi Rosaline" he said for he knew that they both were in sir's class.

Rosaline closed her eyes, content to just sit there with the sunlight hitting her cheeks through the window. The sound of hurried footsteps reached her. It was steady becoming louder, and the girl couldn't help the little pout at the intrusion of her private thoughts. In reality, she shouldn't have been so moved by just that; they would come and pass on by. That little pout disappeared and her eyes shot open as the footsteps stopped and her name was spoken. "Hello, Master Grey," she greeted him, the pout replaced now with a small, shy smile.
It was then that another student approached. She recognized him from a few of their classes. He was a year ahead of her, though, and being the type of person who like to avoid people, she hadn't stopped to say her hellos to him before. "Leon," Rosaline nodded her head in greeting.

Gillian shifted the papers he had been holding. 'Hello Leon' He smiled at the two. 'It is much too brilliant a day to be indoors, but it seems you have remidied that, Rosaline'
His urgency was quickly forgotten as he bathed in the dull warmth that the pool of sunlight provided. Though he knew niether student well, he did not feel awkward standing with them so casually.

Rosaline gave a small nod in response to Master Grey's comment. "Indeed, Sir," she replied. The smallest hint of a blush rose to her cheeks at the thought of how she must look; just sitting there in the window with her forehead pressed to the glass. She shifted her position on the sill to make room for the other two. "Would you care to join?" she asked, her initial shyness peeping through again. "That is... if you don't have to be on your way somewhere," she added hastily.

Gillian smiled, his eyes lighting up. 'I would love to join you.' He chuckled a little, realising the hurry that he had been in and the papers in his hands. 'I was on my to the Headmasters office, but it is of little importance. I just hated being stuck inside when the day is so wonderful.'
He placed the stack of papers, neatly bound, onto the floor by the window and took a seat on the sill next to Rosaline. 'How are you enjoying being at the academy? Are you liking your classes?'

Rosaline nodded to the professor's comments. She, herself, would be outside at that moment if it weren't for the fact that there were so many others out there as well. She kept to herself and that was how she liked it. That way there would only be a select few to ever see how truly nervous she became in a group. She was nervous and shy already, and there was only her teacher and one other student.
"My classes are alright," she answered after a moment of silent thinking. "I can understand your Latin rather easily, and my other classes are coming along." Some more than others... she thought of Transformation, currently her worst subject. "But I wish I'd learn more in weapon's training. I feel too out of practice with my bow." Rosaline stopped there and pressed her lips tightly together. She didn't wish any word of possible offense to reach the weapon's professor, the headmaster. That would certainly make her day.
"As for the academy itself, I don't like it." She said this quickly, solidly. Her answer was steady. The walls and rules kept her too confined and she was a creature that needed space and freedom in her world.

Gillian chuckled. 'An interesting mind you have there. Most students find Latin the hardest of their subjects, unless they're doing Transformation, of course.' He looked at her with a bemused curiousity 'I like a mind that takes as easily to the ancient language as I do'. He felt an odd pride in teaching a student that took easily to Latin.
'Ah! Weapons training. The Headmasters class. Now that would be a lesson I would want to sit in on. As a Headmaster he is unusual, but beneficial. As a Master? I am yet to see.'
Gillian looked slightly bewildered at Rosa's next words. 'No? Why?' He liked the Academy himself. He found it unique and interesting, full of place to explore and things to know. He didn't know why she wouldn't, though he understood that not everyone shared his interest in the unusual.

"Forgive my saying," she began. "But I find he is a bit unusual compared to my other teachers." Or perhaps it was her own fault, though she doubted she'd gotten quite so out of practice. She'd been in shape back at home. Had she let herself go? "I've never felt so clumsy with a weapon in my hands, and I've plenty of training back home."
"It's walls and rules constrict us," Rosaline said simply. "We are human beings, well... human-like for the most part. But we are not meant to be held back by rules and walls. The simple act of making us wear a color is prohibiting. How can one be free if he is held back, and allows himself to be held back, by something so basic?"

Gillian raised his eyebrows at her. 'Interesting...' he frowned, genuinely intruiged as to the nature of Rosa's newfound problem with a weapon. 'I wonder, if it is not the Headmaster himself that is the problem, but the weapon itself or even your own reaction to the situation you are in. For if it is as you say, and you have had plenty of training before hand, then it is very unlikely that a new teacher would have halted your progress so much that you infact go backwards. Forgive me if I have mispoken, miss Rosaline, but does that not seem a more logical explanation?'
Gillian chuckled softly. 'I see the kind of person you are. A free spirit. I, personally, do not mind the restrictions of the island, or of the academy. I have indeed seen stricter schools, but I do still understand your disatisfaction.'

Rosaline shrugged. There were a few theories. "It is mostly archery. I'm not a fan of the draw-back method both use here," she offered up one solution. "But if it is common, better to blend in at the moment to observe and stand out later." That was mostly the goal there. She wanted to figure this Headmaster out. He intrigued her. Once she did that, then she'd step out and do what she really could do.
Again a shrug lifted Rosaline's shoulders to her ears. "I was given far too much freedom as a little girl back home," she told him with a little laugh. "It drove my professors mad when they wanted me and I was off picking berries or something. Mainly I was just off with my brother, the devilish boy."

"I see" Gillian said, his mind satisfied "Then it is a problem of technique. I suppose such variance is to be expected, though I did not think of it" A small smile escaped and sat upon his lips. "I am sure, however, that when you do show the extent of your skill, that the Headmaster will be most pleased."
"Freedom is good for the soul, if one believes such things. In any case, it is certainly good for the heart and body, and even more so for one's character. Something that I sense you are not in lacking of." He turned his head as he spoke, staring out the window into the bright sunlight. He felt a desire swell within him to be outside, exploring the town and its various small botiques.

Rosaline simply shrugged. Whatever it was that differed between her own knowledge and the ways the Headmaster planned to teach her, it was for her to overcome and surpass. And she would surpass. She had to. It was not enough to just let things be, not for her at least. Not if her plan was to succeed. A duel with the Headmaster himself would be a fun thing to try.
The young girl watched her teacher's face as he gazed out the window. She followed his look outdoors. Stretching her legs out, Rosaline tore herself away from the view and hopped from the window sill. Her hand outstretched, much in the manner of a child to its parent, she looked to Professor Grey. "Shall we go outside?" she asked him, a sprinkling of blush rising to her cheeks and over her nose.

If his heart and breath halted even for a fraction of a second, Gillian did not show it. His smile stayed firmly upon his face, as if his features were ignorant of his thoughts. There was enough innocence in the gesture of Rosaline's outstretched hand for him to ignore it without letting her know he did so purposely. He had been at far to many schools to know that the acceptance of such a simple gesture could be condemning.
"That has to be simply, the best idea I have heard all day." He stood, his eyes brushing over the bound pile of papers as he did so. "But i'm afraid we may require a detour beforehand." He bent to pick up the papers. "That is, if you don't mind?"

Rosaline dropped her hand to her side. She thought nothing of the fact that he did not take her hand. She was used to such things; her family had never shown much outward affection towards each other. The only time it was viewed really was between a mother and her babes. Or perhaps a wife, genuinely in love with her husband, jealous of his mistress. And so it had been that she grew accustomed to love and affection only from the dogs.
"Not at all," the young girl replied, eager now that she had something to do besides just sit around. It was a proven fact that the day passed more quickly when one had a task at hand.

Gillian shifted the papers under one arm and began walking towards the prinipals office, though slower than when he first set out. He took a few steps to make sure Rosaline was following before continuing.
"Is there anywhere in particular you would like to go, after i've dropped these off?" Gillian motioned to the papers needlessly, with his free hand.

Rosaline took a last longing look at her seat in the window before glancing out into the sun again. A small smile turned up the corners of her lips and turned around, shuffling to catch up to her professor. She shook her head no at his question. "I've only been here a few weeks," she responded. "I don't know of places to go." A little laugh came from her in order to lighten the somewhat dark mood.

As they walked past the Headmasters door, Gillian quietly placed the stack of papers in front of it and continued walking, not bothering to knock. He supposed it would be amusing to see the Headmaster stumble unsuspectingly over them, but pushed the thought from his mind.
Gillian smiled brightly "No matter. Lets see..." He looked thoughtful. "We could explore Repono. There are some lovely boutiques down there. Or there is the lake, and I know of a sweet little place in the forest that beautiful in the sun."
His blue-grey eyes glittered expectantly, looking at Rosa. "It is your choice, where we go"

It took Rosaline a little bit to mull it over. The forest and the lake were nearby. Those could be explored any time. But what was Repono? Was it as close as the other suggestions her professor had made? "Is Repono a mall or something?" she asked him, now incredibly curious. Of course, she had no money to buy anything from the boutiques Master Grey had said were there.
